Publication Ethics

1. General Principles

The Journal of Business Systems Innovation and Management Science (JBSIMS) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics in all aspects of its operation. The integrity of scholarly communication depends on the honesty, transparency, and accountability of all participants in the publishing process. Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to conduct their work with professionalism and in accordance with internationally recognized ethical standards. The journal ensures that all published content meets rigorous academic and ethical standards, and it promotes trust in the scientific community. JBSIMS also encourages open discussion, critique, and replication of published work to strengthen the overall quality and reliability of research in the fields of business systems, innovation, and management science.

2. Author Responsibilities

Authors submitting to JBSIMS are responsible for ensuring that their work is original, accurate, and clearly presented. All submissions must represent the author’s own research and ideas and must not have been published elsewhere, including in print or online formats. Authors must properly cite all sources, including text, data, and images, and give credit to prior work where appropriate.

Authors are also required to disclose any financial, personal, or professional conflicts of interest that may influence their research or interpretation of results. For research involving human participants or animals, authors must obtain appropriate ethical approval from recognized institutions and include statements confirming this in their manuscript.

Manuscripts must not be redundant, fragmented, or submitted simultaneously to multiple journals. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have read and approved the submission and are aware of their responsibilities. If errors or inaccuracies are discovered after publication, authors must promptly notify the editorial team to correct or retract the work. Failure to comply with these responsibilities may lead to manuscript rejection, retraction, or notification to relevant institutions.

3. Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and quality of JBSIMS. They are expected to provide thorough, objective, and unbiased evaluations of manuscripts. Reviews should focus solely on the content, quality, methodology, originality, and relevance of the work.

Reviewers must conduct reviews confidentially and may not disclose any information about a manuscript to third parties. They are prohibited from using any knowledge gained during the review process for personal or professional advantage. Reviewers must also disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could compromise the objectivity of their review.

Constructive feedback is essential; reviewers should provide clear guidance to authors to help improve the manuscript and advance the field. If a reviewer identifies potential ethical issues, such as plagiarism, data manipulation, or undisclosed conflicts, they must report these to the editorial team immediately.

4. Editorial Responsibilities

The editorial team of JBSIMS is responsible for ensuring fair, unbiased, and transparent evaluation of all submissions. Editors make decisions based on scientific quality, originality, and alignment with the journal’s scope, and they are committed to treating all authors fairly, regardless of nationality, gender, or institutional affiliation.

Editors are responsible for managing conflicts of interest, both their own and those of reviewers, and must ensure that manuscripts are reviewed objectively. The editorial team investigates allegations of misconduct, including plagiarism, data falsification, duplicate publication, and unethical research practices. Corrective actions, such as retraction or publication of errata, are taken when necessary to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

Editors must also ensure that the peer review process is timely, confidential, and constructive, providing feedback that supports the improvement of scholarly work. They are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of submissions, including reviewer identities, and must avoid using information from manuscripts for personal or professional gain.

5. Plagiarism and Misconduct

JBSIMS maintains a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism, data fabrication, and other forms of research misconduct. All manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using detection software to ensure originality. Submissions that contain plagiarized material or excessive similarity to previously published work may be rejected outright.

Misconduct also includes data falsification, image manipulation, or presenting results dishonestly. Authors are expected to maintain accurate records of all research procedures and data to allow verification of results. Duplicate or redundant publication, including the submission of the same work to multiple journals, is strictly prohibited.

If any ethical violations are discovered after publication, the journal reserves the right to issue corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern, in accordance with COPE guidelines. JBSIMS is committed to maintaining the integrity of the academic record and protecting the credibility of the research it publishes.

6. Conflicts of Interest

Conflicts of interest can arise from financial relationships, personal connections, or professional affiliations that may influence research outcomes, reviews, or editorial decisions. All authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest.

Declared conflicts are documented and disclosed where appropriate to maintain transparency and trust. Failure to disclose a conflict of interest can compromise the credibility of the research and may result in manuscript rejection, correction, or retraction. By openly declaring conflicts, JBSIMS ensures that all stakeholders can evaluate research in an informed and impartial manner.

7. Corrections and Retractions

JBSIMS is committed to maintaining an accurate and reliable academic record. If errors, inaccuracies, or ethical breaches are identified in published manuscripts, the journal will take appropriate corrective actions. Minor errors may be addressed through published corrections or errata, while major ethical violations may lead to retraction of the article.

All corrections and retractions are clearly indicated and linked to the original article. Retractions remain part of the scholarly record to maintain transparency and integrity. The journal follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to ensure that corrections and retractions are handled consistently and fairly.

8. Confidentiality

All submissions to JBSIMS are treated as strictly confidential. Manuscripts and associated materials are accessible only to the editorial team, reviewers, and relevant administrative staff. Confidential information obtained during the submission and review process must not be used for personal gain, research, or professional advantage.

Reviewers and editors must respect the privacy of authors and refrain from sharing any details of a manuscript outside the formal review process. This ensures a secure and ethical publication environment for all contributors.

9. Open Access and Licensing

JBSIMS is an open-access journal, meaning that all published content is freely available to readers immediately upon publication. The journal operates under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0).

Authors retain the copyright of their work while granting the journal the right to publish, distribute, and host the content. Readers are permitted to read, download, reuse, and cite published content, provided that proper attribution is given. This open-access policy supports transparency, broad dissemination of knowledge, and ethical sharing of research.

10. Compliance

JBSIMS strictly adheres to the standards recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and other international best practices for academic publishing. Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to follow these guidelines to ensure ethical, transparent, and responsible conduct in all aspects of research publication.

The journal regularly reviews and updates its policies to maintain compliance with evolving standards, ensuring that JBSIMS continues to serve as a trusted platform for high-quality research in business systems, innovation, and management science.
